You Inherited a Film Camera: How to Test It Before Roll One
Test an inherited film camera before you buy film: shutter, lens, light seals, meter, and how to read a test roll.
S Your first roll of film doesn't have to be perfect. It just has to get shot.
I found my grandfather’s film camera in a closet a few years ago and shot my first roll mostly out of curiosity. Half of it was blank, the other half was blurry, and I was hooked. Now I shoot 35mm and medium format, develop some of my own black and white, and still get excited picking up scans from the lab.
I help beginners with the questions that stop most people before roll one: which camera to buy or how to test the one you inherited, which film stock to start with, how to meter without a phone app, and where to get film developed. Text me your scans and we’ll go through them on a call, frame by frame.
15 minutes. Tell me where you are, I'll tell you what I'd do.
